Description
The Knightsbridge EMLED5L is a 4W LED emergency bulkhead with integrated automatic self-test functionality complying with EN 62034, IP65 weatherproof rating, and configuration options for maintained or non-maintained operation. The fitting houses SMD LEDs delivering 170 lumens in mains mode and 165 lumens in emergency mode, with a minimum 3-hour runtime from a LiFePO4 battery when mains power fails.
Designed for emergency exit route illumination in commercial, residential, industrial and outdoor applications, the bulkhead mounts directly to walls or ceilings via a hinged gear tray and push-fit connector block. The IP65 polycarbonate body and diffuser allow installation in exposed locations including car parks, stairwells, external walkways and loading bays. Visual LED indicators on the front panel show battery health and fault status at a glance, while the self-test function runs periodic checks automatically without manual intervention.
The 350mm x 110mm x 60mm white polycarbonate housing carries a prismatic diffuser that spreads the 6000K daylight-white LED output across a 110° beam angle. The fitting arrives with a self-adhesive legend kit as standard, allowing 'EXIT', directional arrows or custom signage to be applied to the diffuser during installation. The Class II construction eliminates the need for an earth connection, simplifying wiring in retrofit installations where earthing may not be readily available.

Frequently Asked
What's the difference between maintained and non-maintained operation?
In non-maintained mode, the LEDs only illuminate when mains power fails, making the fitting purely an emergency light. In maintained mode, the LEDs stay on continuously while mains power is present, and switch to battery power during outages. The EMLED5L can be configured for either mode during installation.
How does the self-test function work?
The fitting automatically tests the battery and LEDs at pre-programmed intervals in accordance with EN 62034. Visual LED indicators on the front panel show green for healthy status or amber/red for faults. This removes the need for manual monthly and annual testing required by older emergency fittings.
Can this be used outdoors?
Yes. The IP65 rating means the fitting is protected against low-pressure water jets from any direction and is dust-tight, making it suitable for outdoor installation on external walls, covered walkways, loading bays and car park canopies. Avoid locations with direct high-pressure water exposure.
What's included in the legend kit?
The fitting includes self-adhesive legends as standard, typically including 'EXIT' text and directional arrows. These can be applied to the prismatic diffuser during installation to create compliant emergency exit signage without needing a separate sign box.
