Description
The Knightsbridge 20AX key module provides a 2-way single-pole switch controlled by a removable key, marked 'EMG LTG TEST' on the antique brass faceplate. The key switch is designed for emergency lighting test circuits, where restricted access prevents unauthorised switching. The module carries a 20AX rating at 230V 50Hz, handling loads up to 4,600W.
Built for Knightsbridge's grid system, the module clips into compatible mounting frames (sold separately) from the front without requiring removal of the frame or back box. This allows electricians to configure multi-gang switch plates by selecting the exact modules needed for each installation — mixing switches, sockets, dimmers and specialised modules like this one within a single frame. The 24.8mm width occupies one grid space.
The antique brass finish gives a warm, aged metallic appearance that suits period properties, heritage buildings and interiors where modern polished finishes would look out of place. The brass faceplate is ABS-backed with a steel switch mechanism, and the key is included with the module. The IP20 rating limits the module to dry indoor locations — it is not suitable for bathrooms, outdoor use or damp environments.
The 2-way switching allows the module to be wired in series with another switch controlling the same circuit, or used as a standalone isolator. In emergency lighting installations, the key switch typically sits on a test circuit that triggers the emergency luminaires to illuminate from battery power, allowing monthly or quarterly testing without cutting mains power to the building.

Frequently Asked
What is this module used for?
The key module is designed for emergency lighting test circuits, where a key-operated switch provides restricted access to trigger emergency luminaires into test mode. The key prevents unauthorised switching, ensuring only qualified personnel can operate the test circuit.
What mounting frame does it require?
The module clips into Knightsbridge grid mounting frames, sold separately. The 24.8mm width occupies one grid space within a multi-gang frame. The minimum back box depth required is 35mm.
Is the key included?
Yes. The module ships with one key. Spare keys can be ordered separately if multiple authorised users require access.
Can it be used in bathrooms?
No. The IP20 rating limits the module to dry indoor locations only. It is not suitable for bathrooms, outdoor use or damp environments where moisture ingress could occur.
