Description

The Knightsbridge UTP CAT5e RJ45 outlet module is a 25 x 50mm grey networking outlet designed to fit euro-module grid faceplates. The module houses a single RJ45 socket on the front face with IDC (insulation displacement connector) terminals on the rear for terminating CAT5e cables without the need for crimping tools or pre-made connectors.

Designed for residential and commercial network point installation, the module integrates into modular grid systems where multiple outlets (data, phone, video, power) can be combined in a single faceplate. The 18mm recessed depth allows it to fit into a minimum 25mm back box depth, making it suitable for standard UK wall boxes used for single or double gang plates. The RJ45 socket accepts standard ethernet patch leads for connecting computers, printers, VoIP phones and network-attached devices.

The grey ABS construction matches Knightsbridge's grid range and provides a neutral finish that pairs with most commercial and residential interiors. The IDC terminals on the rear support tool-free termination using a standard punchdown tool, with colour-coded markings for T568A and T568B wiring schemes. The module carries an IP20 rating for indoor use and a 1-year warranty.

What is the difference between UTP CAT5e and CAT6?

CAT5e supports network speeds up to 1 Gigabit per second (1000 Mbps) over distances up to 100 metres, which is sufficient for most home and small office applications. CAT6 supports higher frequencies and can handle 10 Gigabit speeds over shorter runs, but requires CAT6-rated cable throughout the installation to gain the benefit.

What grid faceplates is this compatible with?

This module fits any euro-module grid system with 25 x 50mm apertures. Knightsbridge produces matching grid faceplates in 1-gang, 2-gang and larger formats across multiple finishes. The module clips into the grid frame from the rear and is held in place by the faceplate screws.

What tool is needed to terminate the cable?

A standard 110-type punchdown tool is used to terminate CAT5e cables into the IDC terminals on the rear of the module. The terminals are colour-coded for T568A and T568B wiring schemes, and the punchdown tool cuts off the excess wire during termination.

Can this be used outdoors or in bathrooms?

No. The module carries an IP20 rating, which means it is suitable for dry indoor locations only. For bathrooms or outdoor network points, a module and faceplate with a higher IP rating would be required.
