Description

Universal is a ceiling light in white. A shallow white drum sitting tight against the ceiling, its side a plain straight band and its underside closed by a recessed white diffuser set up inside the rim. A second, narrower white ring stands proud of the top face, so light escapes upward round it and washes the ceiling as well as the room. The drum's edge is square and crisp and the white is matt throughout. There is no pattern and no fixing visible from below. It is wide and low and reads as a disc laid flat on the ceiling. It measures 50cm across and 10cm tall, in plastic and metal.

Mounted flush it clears a doorway and a low ceiling, so a corridor, a landing or a small bedroom is its territory, and it lights the whole room evenly rather than pooling on one surface. It is the light you put in first and stop noticing, which is the point of a flush fitting: it does the general lighting so the lamps in the room can do the rest.

The LED is built in at 55W, so there is no bulb to buy and none to fit. It is rated IP20, for dry indoor rooms. It carries a G energy label.

Do I need to buy a bulb?

No. The LED is built into the fitting, so there is nothing to buy and nothing to fit.

What happens when the LED fails?

The fitting is replaced rather than relamped. At 55W and normal domestic use that is many years away.

How bright is it at full?

Comparable to a 100W to 150W incandescent bulb at full.

Can it go in a bathroom?

No. It is IP20, which covers dry interior rooms only. A bathroom needs IP44 or better.
