Description

Twist is a floor lamp in opal and black. A tall opal glass egg turned with a twisted flute, the ribs spiralling round the body so the glass reads as a series of soft diagonal bands, carried at the top of a very slim black stem that rises from a flat round black disc base. The white is warm and the ribs are rounded rather than sharp, so the pattern shows as shading. The stem is a plain round tube with no joints and is deliberately thin, so the egg appears to float. The glass is thick and hides the lamp entirely. It measures 25cm across.

It stands beside a chair or at the end of a sofa, where it puts one pool of light exactly where it is needed without lighting the whole space. That is what a floor lamp is for: it takes the reading light off the ceiling and puts it at shoulder height, so the room can be lit softly and still be worked in.

The holder is E27 and takes up to 20W. It plugs into an ordinary socket, so it needs no electrician. It is class II, double insulated, so it needs no earth, and it is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms.

Which bulb does it take?

An E27 lamp up to 20W. Bulbs are supplied separately so you can choose the brightness and colour you want.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, on a compatible dimmer, provided the lamp you fit is a dimmable one. The fitting has no dimmer of its own.

Does it need an electrician?

No. It comes on a flex with a moulded plug and goes into an ordinary socket.

Does it need an earth?

No. It is class II, double insulated, so it is wired live and neutral only.

Can it go in a bathroom?

No. It is IP20, which covers dry interior rooms only. A bathroom needs IP44 or better.
