Description

The Toro is a 220mm-high LED outdoor down coach lantern in black polycarbonate with a switchable colour temperature and an integrated 8W SMD LED. A recessed switch on the fitting allows users to select between warm white 3000K (460 lumens) and neutral white 4000K (490 lumens), giving flexibility to match the lantern's output to different outdoor settings without changing the bulb or fitting.

Designed for UK front doors, garage entrances, courtyard walls and covered porches, the Toro directs light downward through an opal polycarbonate diffuser that softens the output from the LED array inside. The IP44 rating protects against rain and splashing water from any direction, making the lantern suitable for exposed walls under eaves or in open porches. The Class II insulation means no earth connection is required during installation, simplifying wiring where existing outdoor circuits are two-core.

The polycarbonate body resists impact and UV degradation better than acrylic or glass equivalents, and the black finish is applied as a through-colour moulding rather than a surface coating, so scratches and minor abrasions do not expose a different colour beneath. The 190mm projection from the wall gives the traditional coach lantern silhouette without intruding too far into narrow pathways. The curved hood prevents rain from pooling on the top of the diffuser.

Frequently Asked

How do you switch between colour temperatures?

A recessed switch on the fitting allows you to select either 3000K warm white or 4000K neutral white. The switch is typically accessible during installation or by removing the diffuser after installation, so the colour temperature can be changed when needed without removing the lantern from the wall.

Can this be used in exposed coastal locations?

The polycarbonate construction resists corrosion better than metal equivalents, and the IP44 rating protects against rain and splashing. However, in very exposed coastal areas where salt spray is heavy, periodic rinsing with fresh water will help prevent salt build-up on the diffuser and body.

Is the LED replaceable?

No. The SMD LED is integrated into the fitting. The L70B50 rating of 36,000 hours means the LED should maintain at least 70% of its initial output for approximately 15 years under typical 6-hour-per-day use, after which the entire fitting would need replacing.

What fixing method does it use?

The lantern mounts to a standard UK outdoor wall box or directly to masonry with two fixing screws. The Class II rating means no earth connection is needed, so it works on two-core mains cable. See the installation section of the specification sheet for wiring details.
