Description

Sørup is a pendant in black and antique brass. A wide, very shallow black disc that flares out almost flat and turns down at its rim, with two antique brass rings stacked above it on short posts and a brass cylinder capping the top. The brass is a soft aged gold and shows only from below or from the side, where it catches the light escaping between the rings. Beneath the disc a black cylindrical skirt drops down and holds the light in, leaving a bright ring at its open bottom. The underside of the disc is pale, so it bounces light back down. The proportions are wide and low. It measures 40cm across and 16.3cm tall, in metal.

Hang it so the bottom of the shade sits about 80cm above the surface, a little higher if people walk beneath it rather than sit under it. Hung at that height the shade is read as an object in the room rather than as a source, and the light lands on the table instead of in the eyes of the people round it. It comes with its own ceiling rose and the drop is cut to your ceiling at installation rather than fixed at the factory.

It wires into a fixed outlet at a terminal block, which is work for a competent electrician. It is rated IP20, for dry indoor rooms.

Which bulb does it take?

An E27 lamp up to 40W. Bulbs are supplied separately so you can choose the brightness and colour you want.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, on a compatible dimmer, provided the lamp you fit is a dimmable one. The fitting has no dimmer of its own.

How high should it hang above a dining table?

About 80cm from the table top to the bottom of the shade. Go higher over an island people walk past, and lower over a table nobody passes beneath.

Does it need an electrician?

Yes. It wires into a fixed outlet at a terminal block.

Is the ceiling rose included?

Yes, and the flex is shortened at installation so the drop suits your ceiling height.

Can it go in a bathroom?

No. It is IP20, which covers dry interior rooms only. A bathroom needs IP44 or better.
