Description

Sørup is a pendant in black and copper. The main shade is a wide, flat black disc that turns down gently at the rim, with a white underside that throws the light back onto the table. Floating just above it on three slender copper rods is a smaller flat copper disc, and above that a polished copper collar where the black textile flex enters. Beneath the main shade hangs a short black drum, open at the bottom and held off the shade on thin rods, which wraps round the bulb so you never look straight at it. Light comes down through the drum and also escapes sideways between the tiers, so the fitting glows at its edges as well as lighting what is beneath it. It is a design that has been in continuous production since 1989, and it shows in how settled the proportions are.

At 40cm across it is sized for a dining table or a kitchen island, where it has room to be seen whole. Hang it so the bottom of the drum sits about 80cm above the surface, a little higher if people walk beneath it rather than sit under it. It comes with its own ceiling rose and a black textile flex, and the drop is cut to your ceiling at installation rather than fixed at the factory.

The holder is E27 and takes up to 40W. It wires into a fixed ceiling outlet, which is work for a competent electrician.

Which bulb does it take?

An E27 lamp up to 40W. Bulbs are supplied separately so you can choose the brightness and colour you want.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, on a compatible dimmer, provided the lamp you fit is a dimmable one. The fitting has no dimmer of its own.

How high should it hang above a dining table?

About 80cm from the table top to the bottom of the drum. Go higher over an island people walk past, and lower over a table nobody passes beneath.

Does it need an electrician?

Yes. It wires into a fixed ceiling outlet at a terminal block.

Is the ceiling rose included?

Yes, and the flex is shortened at installation so the drop suits your ceiling height.

Can it go in a bathroom?

No. It is IP20, which covers dry interior rooms only. A bathroom needs IP44 or better.
