Description

Rivoli is a pendant in black and copper. A wide, very shallow black disc that flares out almost flat and then turns down at its rim, with two copper rings stacked above it on short posts and a black cylinder capping the top. The copper is polished and warm and sits in the shadow of the disc, so it shows as two bright bands only from below or from the side. Beneath the disc a black cylindrical skirt drops down and holds the light in, leaving a bright ring at its open bottom. The black is matt and the underside of the disc is black too. The proportions are wide and low, so it hangs like a canopy rather than a shade. It measures 50cm across.

Hang it so the bottom of the shade sits about 80cm above the surface, a little higher if people walk beneath it rather than sit under it. Hung at that height the shade is read as an object in the room rather than as a source, and the light lands on the table instead of in the eyes of the people round it.

It is rated IP20, for dry indoor rooms.
