Description

The QTX UMBRA-1200 is a 1200W low fog machine that produces ground-hugging mist without requiring dry ice or carbon dioxide. The unit combines standard fog fluid with water and an internal cooling process to generate a dense, low-lying fog that stays close to floor level rather than rising. The machine delivers up to 255m³ (9,000 cubic feet) of fog output per minute through a flexible duct and directional funnel.

Designed for theatrical productions, stage performances and themed events where a dramatic ground-level mist effect is needed, the UMBRA-1200 ships in a wheeled flight case with lockable castors for transport and on-site mobility. The main unit houses a removable 0.8-litre fog fluid tank and a separate water reservoir with a drain tap for maintenance. The digital control panel can be operated on-board or detached to function as a wired remote via 7-pin XLR connection, and the unit also accepts DMX512 control over two channels via 3-pin XLR in/out connections.

The flight case measures 590 x 510 x 410mm and the combined unit and case weigh 25kg. The machine draws 1200W from 220-240Vac mains and requires 3-5 minutes warm-up time before producing fog. The flexible duct allows the operator to direct the mist onto specific stage areas, and the low-temperature fog effect dissipates more slowly than standard fog machines, maintaining the visual effect for longer periods.

Frequently Asked

What makes this different from a standard fog machine?

Standard fog machines produce fog that rises and disperses upwards. The UMBRA-1200 cools the fog internally using water, creating a heavier mist that stays close to the ground. This replicates the dry ice effect traditionally achieved with carbon dioxide and ice, but using only standard fog fluid and tap water.

How is it controlled?

The machine has an onboard digital control panel that can be detached and used as a wired remote via 7-pin XLR cable. It also accepts DMX512 control over two channels via 3-pin XLR in/out connections, allowing integration with lighting desks and DMX control systems.

How long does the fog fluid last?

The 0.8-litre fog fluid tank capacity and consumption rate depend on output intensity and duration settings. At maximum output of 255m³/min, the tank will deplete faster than at lower output settings. For typical theatrical use with intermittent fog bursts, one tank may last an entire performance.

Is the flight case necessary for transport?

The flight case protects the machine during transport and provides a stable wheeled platform for moving the 25kg unit around venues. The lockable castors allow the machine to be positioned on-stage and locked in place, with the flexible duct directing fog to specific areas without needing to move the case again.
