Description

The QTX Stratus 1200 is a low-level fog machine that produces a ground-hugging dry ice effect using standard fog fluid and water, eliminating the need for carbon dioxide canisters or dry ice blocks. The 1200W heating element warms the fog fluid whilst a separate cooling chamber chills the output with water, creating dense white fog that stays low to the floor rather than rising into the venue ceiling.

Designed for theatre productions, stage performances, Halloween events and themed installations where a rolling mist effect across the stage floor or venue space is required, the Stratus 1200 outputs 7,500 cubic feet per minute of fog. The machine is operated via a wired digital control panel (connected by 5-pin DIN), an RF wireless remote on 433MHz, or a 2-channel DMX connection for integration into lighting desks and show control systems. The removable 1.2-litre fog fluid tank and 3-litre water reservoir both allow mid-event refills without stopping a performance.

The unit measures 510mm wide by 360mm deep by 260mm tall and weighs 9.3kg when empty, making it portable enough for mobile entertainers and event hire companies. The water reservoir features a drain tap at the base for emptying between uses, preventing stagnant water build-up. Warm-up time is 3-5 minutes from cold power-on to first fog output, and the machine runs on standard UK 220-240V mains via an IEC connection.

Frequently Asked

What fluid does the Stratus 1200 use?

The machine uses standard water-based fog fluid (sold separately) in the 1.2-litre tank, plus ordinary tap water in the 3-litre reservoir. The water cools the fog output to create the low-lying effect. No dry ice or CO2 is required.

How long does the fog stay low to the ground?

The chilled fog stays low for several metres from the machine outlet before gradually warming and rising. Duration depends on room temperature, airflow and humidity — cooler rooms with minimal air movement give the longest low-lying effect.

Can it be controlled via DMX?

Yes. The machine has a 2-channel DMX connection for integration into lighting desks and show control systems. It also ships with a wired digital control panel (5-pin DIN connection) and an RF wireless remote operating on 433MHz.

How often does the water reservoir need refilling?

The 3-litre water reservoir and 1.2-litre fog fluid tank both drain during use. Refill frequency depends on continuous output duration — for a typical 2-hour event with intermittent fog bursts, expect to refill at least once. The reservoirs are removable for mid-event refills.
