Description

The QTX DMX-D8 is an 8-way DMX signal distributor with opto-isolated outputs, designed to split a single DMX input across eight independent output lines while maintaining signal integrity and protecting connected fixtures from electrical faults. The unit accepts one DMX input via 3-pin XLR, provides a loop-through output for daisy-chaining additional distributors, and splits the signal to eight galvanically isolated 3-pin XLR outputs.

Designed for touring productions, theatre installations, and live events requiring stable DMX distribution across large fixture counts, the DMX-D8 prevents signal degradation over long cable runs and isolates each output leg so that a short circuit or fault on one line cannot propagate to the others. The switchable termination on the loop-through output allows the unit to act as the final device in a chain or to pass the signal onward to additional equipment.

Each of the eight outputs carries tri-colour LED indicators (green, red, amber) showing real-time DMX data presence, signal quality and fault conditions, allowing technicians to diagnose issues without a dedicated DMX tester. The unit is mains-powered from 230V AC via an IEC inlet, eliminating reliance on batteries or external power supplies during extended shows. The 2.3kg steel enclosure provides robust protection for rack or flight-case transport, with a 280 x 180 x 75mm footprint that fits standard 19-inch racks using optional mounting ears.

Frequently Asked

What does opto-isolated mean?

Opto-isolation uses light-based signal transfer inside the unit to create electrical separation between the input and each output. This prevents voltage spikes, ground loops or short circuits on one output from feeding back into the input or affecting other outputs, protecting your entire lighting rig from cascading faults.

Do I need to terminate the loop-through output?

If the DMX-D8 is the last device in your DMX chain, switch the termination on. If you are passing the signal onward to another distributor or additional fixtures, leave the termination off. Termination prevents signal reflection that can cause flickering or dropouts on long cable runs.

What do the LED indicators show?

Each output has tri-colour LEDs showing DMX data presence (green), signal quality and fault conditions (red, amber). This allows real-time monitoring of all eight outputs without external test equipment, speeding up troubleshooting during setup and shows.

Can this be rack-mounted?

The unit measures 280 x 180 x 75mm and does not include rack ears as standard, but its width and depth suit 19-inch rack mounting using optional third-party rack brackets or tray shelves.
