Description

The QTX 512-channel DMX controller manages up to 32 intelligent lighting fixtures across a standard 512-channel DMX universe, with each fixture assigned up to 32 channels for control of pan, tilt, colour, gobo, strobe and other parameters. The controller stores 32 scenes and 32 chases (each chase holding up to 100 steps), allowing complex lighting sequences to be programmed and triggered via sound activation, auto-run or manual cue.

Designed for mobile DJs, small-to-medium stage productions, event hire companies and installed AV in function rooms or houses of worship, the controller provides direct control over DMX-capable moving heads, LED wash fixtures, strobes and effects lights. The USB port backs up programmed scenes and chases to external storage, protecting against data loss when the controller is powered down or moved between venues. Settings can be stored across 16 banks, allowing different shows to be loaded onto the same controller.

The metal chassis withstands the knocks of regular transport and the detachable carry handle allows the unit to be moved from flight case to lighting desk without needing to re-rack. At 340 x 190 x 38mm (excluding the handle) and 1.982kg, the controller fits into most mobile production cases and leaves enough space on a small table or desk for a mixer or laptop. The 12Vdc 1000mA power supply runs from standard UK mains via the included adapter.

The front panel provides individual faders for each fixture channel, plus dedicated faders for scene and chase control. The backlit LCD screen displays the current mode, fixture assignments and chase/scene status, making it possible to see what's active under low stage lighting. Multiple triggering modes (sound-activated via internal microphone, auto-run at adjustable speed, or manual button press) allow the controller to adapt to different show formats without needing external MIDI or timecode.

Frequently Asked

How many fixtures can the controller manage?

The controller supports up to 32 fixtures across a 512-channel DMX universe. Each fixture can be assigned up to 32 channels, so the total fixture count depends on how many channels each individual fixture uses. For example, a simple RGB LED wash might use 3-6 channels, allowing many more fixtures, while a moving head with pan, tilt, colour, gobo and strobe might use 16-24 channels.

Does the controller remember scenes after being powered off?

Yes, but only if scenes are backed up via the USB port before shutdown. The controller stores up to 16 banks of DMX settings on external USB storage, allowing different shows or venue setups to be loaded when needed. Without USB backup, programmed scenes may be lost when power is removed.

What triggering modes are available?

The controller offers sound activation (internal microphone responds to music or audio cues), auto-run (chases cycle at adjustable speed), and manual triggering (button press to advance scenes or cues). These modes can be switched on the front panel depending on the show format.

Is it compatible with all DMX fixtures?

The controller outputs standard DMX512 protocol, so it's compatible with any DMX-capable intelligent lighting fixture. However, the controller needs to be programmed with the correct channel map for each fixture type (e.g. which channel controls pan, which controls tilt). Refer to each fixture's DMX channel map in its manual when programming.
