Outdoor Up & Down Wall Light With Photocell Sensor - Anthracite

The Knightsbridge OWALL02AP is a dual-direction outdoor wall light in powder-coated anthracite finish, fitted with an integrated photocell sensor that switches the light on at dusk and off at dawn. The cylindrical body houses two GU10 lamp holders positioned back-to-back, directing light upwards and downwards from the wall-mounted fitting. The fitting is IP54-rated for protection against dust ingress and splashing water, making it suitable for covered porches, house entrances, courtyard walls and garden boundary walls where overhead shelter is present.

Built from 201 stainless steel and finished in a powder-coated anthracite, the fitting resists corrosion in outdoor environments whilst providing a contemporary dark grey finish that pairs with both modern render and traditional brickwork. The photocell sensor automates daily operation without need for manual switching or timer programming, cutting standby energy consumption and extending bulb life by limiting run hours to dusk-to-dawn periods only. The 170mm height and 98mm projection suit residential front doors, side gate entrances, garage doorways and commercial building perimeters.

Each GU10 socket accepts halogen or LED bulbs up to 20W (bulbs sold separately), giving flexibility to choose the colour temperature and beam angle that suits the application. Most users pair this fitting with warm-white LED GU10 bulbs between 5-7W and 2700K-3000K for general outdoor illumination, or 4000K daylight bulbs for security lighting. The clear diffuser allows full light output without tinting or diffusion losses. The fitting mounts to a standard 25mm knock-out box on masonry or timber cladding using the supplied back plate and fixings.

How does the photocell sensor work?

The integrated photocell detects ambient light levels and automatically switches the light on when daylight fades to dusk and off when daylight returns at dawn. No manual switching or timer programming is required. The sensor responds to natural light conditions, so switching times vary with seasons and weather.

What GU10 bulbs are recommended?

The fitting accepts halogen or LED GU10 bulbs up to 20W per socket. Most users choose warm-white LED GU10 bulbs between 5-7W and 2700K-3000K for general outdoor lighting, or 4000K daylight bulbs for security applications. Bulbs are sold separately.

Can it be used in fully exposed locations?

The IP54 rating provides protection against dust and splashing water, making the fitting suitable for covered porches, house entrances and courtyard walls where overhead shelter is present. It is not rated for prolonged direct rainfall or hose-down cleaning. For fully exposed coastal or high-rainfall locations, an IP65-rated fitting is recommended.

How is it mounted?

The fitting mounts to a standard 25mm knock-out box on masonry or timber cladding using the supplied back plate and fixings. Mains wiring must be carried out by a qualified electrician in accordance with BS 7671 wiring regulations.
