Description

On the Move is a table lamp in gunmetal. A plain gunmetal drum held on a slim gunmetal stem above a round walnut disc base, the drum closed flat on top and open underneath so all the light falls straight down the stem. The stem glows, because the light runs down the inside of it as well as out of the drum. A small turned brass collar sits where the stem meets the wood, and the wood is a warm mid-brown with the grain showing across the disc. A faint round marking on the top of the drum is the only interruption to its flat face. There is no flex. It measures 13cm across and 19cm tall, in plastic, metal and wood.

It is a lamp for a side table, a desk or a bedside, close enough to reach the switch from where you sit, and it lights the surface it stands on rather than the whole room. A pair either side of a bed or a sofa reads as deliberate where one alone reads as an afterthought, and two smaller lamps light a room more evenly than one large one. The head tilts and holds where it is set, so the light is aimed by hand rather than by moving the whole fitting.

The LED is built in at 2.5W, so there is no bulb to buy and none to fit. It is rated IP20, for dry indoor rooms. It carries an F energy label. It runs on a 4000mAh battery and charges in about 6-7 hours, so it can be carried from room to room.

No. The LED is built into the fitting, so there is nothing to buy and nothing to fit.

What happens when the LED fails?

The fitting is replaced rather than relamped. At 2.5W and normal domestic use that is many years away.

Can it go in a bathroom?

No. It is IP20, which covers dry interior rooms only. A bathroom needs IP44 or better.
