Description

New Northern is a table lamp in graphite. A tall opal shade with straight flared sides and a flat top, standing on a slim black stem that rises from a low round black base. The shade is a plain empire cone with no ribs or pattern, warm white and evenly diffusing, and its rim is left open. The stem is a plain round tube and the base is thick with a softly rounded edge and a small round control let into its face. There is no flex, so the lamp reads as a piece to be picked up and carried. The black and the white meet with no trim between them.

It is a lamp to carry: a side table indoors, then a garden table, a balcony rail or a step by the back door once the evening is warm enough to sit out. Rated IP44, it will take rain and splashing while it is out there, though it is meant to come back in rather than be left through the winter. Running off its own battery is what makes that possible: there is no flex to find a socket for and nothing to trip over on a terrace.

The LED is built in at 2W, so there is no bulb to buy and none to fit. It carries a G energy label. It runs on a 4000mAh battery and charges in about 4-6 hours, so it can be carried from room to room.

No. The LED is built into the fitting, so there is nothing to buy and nothing to fit.

What happens when the LED fails?

The fitting is replaced rather than relamped. At 2W and normal domestic use that is many years away.

Can it be used outside?

Yes, in a sheltered spot. It is rated IP44, so it will take rain and splashing water, and it is meant to be carried out and brought back in rather than left out through the winter.
