Description

The Knightsbridge Kara is a 12W LED recessed panel light with a 169mm white polycarbonate bezel and an opal diffuser that distributes 1080 lumens of 4000K cool white light. Edge-lit SMD LED technology sits the light source around the perimeter of the panel, allowing the fitting to recessed depth to be just 24mm while maintaining uniform illumination across the entire 169mm face with no visible hot-spots or dark patches.

Designed for offices, corridors, kitchens and commercial spaces where ceiling voids are shallow, the Kara requires only a 75mm minimum void above the ceiling plane and cuts into a 155mm diameter aperture. The slim profile makes it suitable for retrofit into suspended ceilings and plasterboard where deeper fittings would clash with joists, ducting or insulation. The 110-degree beam angle provides even spread without excessive glare, and the Class II double-insulated construction means it does not require an earth connection.

The fitting outputs 1080 lumens from 12W input, giving an efficacy of 128.87 lumens per watt. The LED array is rated for 30,000 hours to L70B50, meaning that at typical office use of 2,500 hours per year, the panel will still deliver at least 70% of its original output after 12 years. The fitting is non-dimmable and carries IP20 protection, suitable for dry indoor environments. An emergency conversion kit (EMKIT2L, sold separately) is available for applications requiring maintained or non-maintained emergency lighting compliance.

What ceiling void depth is required?

The Kara requires a minimum 75mm void above the ceiling surface. The fitting itself is 24mm deep and recesses into a 155mm cut-out, so shallow suspended ceilings and plasterboard installations with limited clearance can accommodate it without conflict with joists or services.

Is the Kara dimmable?

No. The fitting uses a constant-current driver and is non-dimmable. If dimming is required, consider alternative Knightsbridge panel models with integrated dimming drivers.

Can it be used with emergency lighting systems?

Yes. The Kara is compatible with the Knightsbridge EMKIT2L emergency conversion kit (sold separately), which allows the panel to operate as maintained or non-maintained emergency lighting in commercial installations requiring Building Regulations Part B compliance.

What colour temperature does it produce?

The Kara emits 4000K cool white light. This is a neutral white tone commonly used in offices, retail and task-lighting applications. Warm white (3000K) variants are available in other Knightsbridge panel ranges if preferred.
