Description

The Knightsbridge IP65 fire-rated GU10 downlight combines sealed moisture protection with structural fire-rating in an 84mm diameter pressed steel housing finished in brushed chrome. The IP65 rating from below protects against water jets and dust ingress, making this downlight suitable for bathrooms, shower rooms and covered outdoor soffits, while the 30/60/90-minute fire rating on solid timber joists prevents flame and smoke spread through ceiling voids.

Designed for new-build and retrofit installation, the downlight uses a fast-fix spring clip system that grips the ceiling aperture without screws, and push-fit terminal blocks allow loop-in/loop-out wiring without a screwdriver. The 69mm cut-out diameter suits standard holesaw sizes and the 167mm minimum void depth accommodates most UK residential joist spacings. The fixed bezel directs light straight down, making this downlight suitable for general bathroom lighting, hallway runs and kitchen perimeter zones where adjustable spots are not needed.

The brushed chrome bezel finish provides a neutral metallic accent that pairs with chrome taps, towel rails and cabinet hardware in bathrooms, or with stainless steel appliances in kitchens. The downlight accepts any GU10 halogen or LED lamp up to 35W (sold separately), with dimming performance dependent on the lamp model chosen. The IC rating when paired with a maximum 6W LED lamp allows the fitting to be covered with loft insulation without overheating, reducing thermal bridging in ceiling voids.

Fire-rating performance varies by joist construction: 30/60/90 minutes on solid timber joists, 30 minutes on web-joists and 30 minutes on I-joists (Staircraft). The IP20 rating from above means the fitting is not sealed against dust or moisture penetration from the ceiling void side, so condensation-prone loft spaces may require additional vapour barrier measures during installation.

Yes. The IP65 rating from below protects against water jets, making this downlight suitable for Zone 1 and Zone 2 bathroom installation according to BS 7671 wiring regulations. The sealed bezel prevents moisture entering the lamp holder during showering or bathing.

What fire-rating does it carry?

Fire-rating varies by joist construction. On solid timber joists the downlight provides 30/60/90-minute fire integrity, preventing flame and smoke spread through the ceiling void. On web-joists and I-joists (Staircraft) the rating is 30 minutes. These ratings apply when the downlight is correctly installed according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Does it come with a GU10 bulb?

No. GU10 lamps are sold separately. The downlight accepts any standard GU10 halogen or LED lamp up to 35W maximum. Most users pair this with a 4-6W LED GU10 in warm white (2700K-3000K) for bathroom or hallway lighting.

Can it be covered with loft insulation?

Yes, but only when fitted with a maximum 6W LED lamp. At this wattage the downlight carries an IC (Insulation Contact) rating, meaning it can be covered with loft insulation without overheating. Using higher-wattage lamps requires a 200mm clearance around the fitting to prevent thermal build-up.
