Description

These are Duracell's rechargeable AA cells, sold four to a box, with 1300mAh printed on the pack and on each cell. That milliamp hour figure is the capacity, and it is the one number worth comparing when you are choosing between rechargeable AA cells: it describes how much charge the cell holds between visits to a charger rather than how much power it delivers at once. AA is the most common cylindrical size in a British home, the one taken by remote controls, games controllers, wall clocks, wireless keyboards, torches and a great many children's toys. The photograph shows the retail box in the familiar black and copper livery, with the four cells sitting in a tray.

Rechargeable cells make the most sense in whatever drains a battery fastest. A games controller used every evening, a toy with a motor in it, a wireless mouse or a camera flash will work through single use cells quickly enough that recharging becomes the cheaper habit, while a wall clock or a smoke alarm is better left on a cell you fit and forget. Buying four at a time is useful for the same reason: one set can sit in the charger while the other set is in the device. The box also carries a printed claim that the cells last five years in storage, so a spare set kept in a drawer is not wasted.

Charge them in a charger made for rechargeable AA cells, and keep each set of four together rather than mixing cells of different ages, which is sound practice with any rechargeable. The pack does not print the cell chemistry, the voltage or a cycle count, so we have not stated them: everything in the table below comes off the box itself. This listing covers the cells only, and it is sold in multiples of ten packs.

Frequently Asked

How many batteries do I actually receive?

Each pack holds four AA cells, and the minimum order is ten packs, so the smallest quantity you can buy comes to forty cells.

Is a charger included in the pack?

No. This listing covers the four cells on their own, so you will need a charger made for rechargeable AA cells alongside them.

What does the 1300mAh figure mean?

It is the capacity printed on the cell. It describes how much charge the cell holds between charges, rather than how much power it gives out at any moment.

Can I keep a spare set in a drawer?

Yes. The retail pack carries a printed claim that these cells last five years in storage, so a set held in reserve is not a wasted purchase.

What chemistry and voltage are these cells?

The retail pack does not print either figure, so we do not state them here. If your charger asks, read the printing on the cells themselves when they arrive.
