Description

The Clifton II is a 60cm round coffee table built from a light travertine stone top on a conical antique brass-finish aluminium base. The travertine surface is polished to bring out the natural pitting and tonal variation characteristic of the stone, with cream and beige striations running through each slab. The conical base tapers from a 300mm diameter at the floor to a narrower top section, creating a pedestal profile that supports the stone top's 14.2kg weight without visible fixing hardware.

Designed for smaller living rooms, reading corners and bedroom seating areas where a standard 90-120cm coffee table would dominate the floor space, the Clifton II provides surface area for drinks, books or a small decorative arrangement without blocking sightlines or circulation paths. The 38cm height sits lower than a standard side table but higher than many low-profile Japanese-style coffee tables, positioning it between seated knee-height and armrest-height depending on sofa style.

The antique brass finish on the aluminium base shows deliberate tarnish and patina variation, giving the appearance of aged metal without the weight or oxidation maintenance of solid brass. This finish pairs the warm metallic tone with the travertine's cream-beige base, creating a cohesive warm palette that works in both traditional and contemporary settings. Each travertine top shows different pitting density and striations depending on the section of stone it was cut from, so no two Clifton II tables are identical.

Frequently Asked

Does the travertine vary between pieces?

Yes. Each top is cut from natural travertine stone, so the pitting density, striations and exact tonal range differ between individual tables. This is a characteristic of the natural material, not a defect.

How is the travertine cleaned?

Travertine is porous and can stain if liquids are left on the surface. Wipe spills immediately with a dry cloth. For routine cleaning, use a barely-damp microfibre cloth with water only. Avoid acidic cleaners (vinegar, lemon-based products), bleach, and abrasive scrubbing pads, as these can damage the polished surface and etch the stone.

Is the base solid brass?

No. The base is aluminium with an antique brass finish applied to give the appearance of aged brass without the weight or maintenance. This finish shows deliberate tarnish and patina variation as part of the design.

What room size does this table suit?

The 60cm diameter makes the Clifton II suitable for compact living rooms, reading corners, bedroom seating areas and as a secondary table in larger open-plan spaces. It works best in rooms where a standard 90-120cm coffee table would feel oversized or block circulation.
