Description

Baltimore is a floor lamp in black. A black cone shade with a rounded shoulder, clamped to a tall slim black rail that rises from a flat round black disc base, so the head slides up and down the rail and locks where it is wanted. The shade's lining is warm cream and shows as a bright mouth against the matt black outside, and a knuckle behind it lets the head swing and turn. A black flex runs from the head and drops straight down beside the rail, left on show rather than chased inside it. The rail is a plain round tube with no joints. Everything but the lining is flat black. It measures 18cm across.

It stands beside a chair or at the end of a sofa, where it puts one pool of light exactly where it is needed without lighting the whole space. That is what a floor lamp is for: it takes the reading light off the ceiling and puts it at shoulder height, so the room can be lit softly and still be worked in. The height is set on the head slides on the stem, so it is adjusted where it stands rather than at installation.

The holder is E27 and takes up to 40W. It plugs into an ordinary socket, so it needs no electrician. It is class II, double insulated, so it needs no earth, and it is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms.

Which bulb does it take?

An E27 lamp up to 40W. Bulbs are supplied separately so you can choose the brightness and colour you want.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, on a compatible dimmer, provided the lamp you fit is a dimmable one. The fitting has no dimmer of its own.

Does it need an electrician?

No. It comes on a flex with a moulded plug and goes into an ordinary socket.

How does the height adjust?

The height adjusts on the head slides on the stem.

Does it need an earth?
