Description

The Knightsbridge 6-8 gang grid mounting frame is a 148mm square steel sub-frame designed to hold modular grid switches and sockets behind screwless cover plates. The frame accepts between 6 and 8 individual grid modules (sold separately) and clips into a standard UK back box, providing the structural support and earth connection for the entire grid assembly before the screwless faceplate is clipped on top.

Used in residential and commercial installations where a single wall plate needs to control multiple circuits or functions, the grid system allows electricians and designers to build custom switch configurations without needing separate back boxes for each function. The frame includes an earth terminal and comes with a gasket to seal the back box aperture against dust ingress, meeting IP20 requirements for dry indoor use.

The frame is constructed from premium-grade steel with a galvanised finish, providing structural rigidity for heavier module loads and long-term dimensional stability. At 10mm projection from the wall when fitted, the frame sits flush enough to allow the screwless cover plate to clip on without creating excessive wall projection. The frame fits a standard 2-gang 47mm deep back box or a dedicated 6-8 gang grid back box. The 148mm square dimension matches the faceplate size, so the back box aperture must accommodate this width and height.

How many modules can it hold?

The frame accepts between 6 and 8 individual grid modules depending on the module width. Standard single-width modules fit 8 per frame, while double-width modules reduce the total count to 6 or fewer.

Is it compatible with standard screw-fixed faceplates?

No. This frame is designed exclusively for Knightsbridge screwless grid faceplates. The clip mechanism that holds the screwless plate in place is built into the frame design and will not work with traditional screw-fixed cover plates.

Does the gasket need to be replaced if the faceplate is removed?

The gasket is reusable and does not typically need replacement unless it becomes damaged or perished. When removing the faceplate for redecoration or module changes, ensure the gasket remains seated around the back box aperture before re-clipping the cover plate.
