Description

The Knightsbridge 5A unswitched round pin socket provides a dedicated outlet for lighting circuits and low-current appliances, built to BS 546 standards. The brushed chrome faceplate has a rounded edge profile with an integrated gasket and a white insert behind the aperture. Unlike standard 13A sockets, the 5A round pin format prevents accidental connection of high-draw appliances to lighting circuits.

Designed for residential lighting installations where table lamps, floor lamps or wall lights need to be controlled via a separate wall switch rather than a switched socket, this unswitched format allows the circuit to remain permanently live while the lamp is controlled from elsewhere. It also suits commercial environments where low-current equipment needs a dedicated outlet. The rounded edge design gives a softer profile than flat plates and the built-in gasket seals the gap between plate and wall.

The brushed chrome finish shows directional grain texturing that reduces fingerprint visibility and pairs with both contemporary and traditional interiors. The white insert contrasts with the metal surround to define the aperture edges. The premium-grade steel construction is rated IP20 for indoor dry-location use and requires a minimum 25mm back box depth for installation. Knightsbridge backs the socket with a 25-year warranty.

Frequently Asked

What is a 5A round pin socket used for?

5A round pin sockets are designed for lighting circuits and low-current appliances. They prevent high-draw appliances being plugged into lighting circuits by using a different pin configuration from standard 13A sockets. Common applications include table lamps, floor lamps and wall lights on circuits controlled by separate wall switches.

Why would I choose an unswitched socket?

An unswitched socket remains permanently live, allowing the connected appliance to be controlled via a separate switch elsewhere on the circuit. This suits lighting installations where a wall switch controls multiple lamps, or where a lamp has its own integral switch and does not need socket-level switching.

What back box depth is required?

A minimum 25mm back box depth is required for installation. The faceplate adds 7.5mm of projection from the wall once fitted.

What other finishes are available in this range?

Knightsbridge produces this rounded edge 5A socket in multiple finishes including polished chrome, brushed chrome, polished brass, antique brass, matt black and white. Use the search function or filters to find other variants in stock at Niori.
