Description

The Knightsbridge 5A unswitched round pin socket provides a single 5A outlet in a screwless anthracite faceplate made from premium-grade steel. The round pin configuration to BS 546 is designed for low-current lighting circuits, custom lighting installations and legacy appliances that use the older 5A standard rather than the modern 13A flat-pin format.

Suited to period properties maintaining original lighting circuits, hotels and commercial spaces running legacy electrical systems, and custom lighting installations where a 5A circuit isolates decorative or task lighting from higher-draw appliances. The unswitched configuration means the socket is always live when the circuit breaker is on, simplifying wiring where switching is controlled upstream or not required. The screwless cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame, giving a flat, screw-free finish once installed.

The anthracite finish is a near-black grey with a subtle metallic sheen, sitting between matt black and brushed graphite in tone. The 87.5mm square plate measures 4.3mm in projection from the wall once fitted, making it one of the slimmest profiles in the Knightsbridge range. The built-in gasket behind the faceplate improves the seal against the wall and reduces dust ingress. The socket requires a minimum 25mm back box depth and carries IP20 rating for dry indoor locations only.

Frequently Asked

What is a 5A round pin socket used for?

The 5A round pin socket to BS 546 is designed for low-current lighting circuits and legacy appliances that use the older 5A standard. It is commonly found in period properties maintaining original wiring, hotels with older electrical systems, and custom lighting installations where lighting circuits are isolated from higher-draw appliances on separate 13A circuits.

Why is this socket unswitched?

The unswitched configuration means the socket is always live when the circuit breaker is on. This simplifies wiring in installations where switching is controlled upstream by a wall switch, dimmer, or remote control, or where constant power is required without user-operated switching at the socket.

What back box depth is required?

A minimum 25mm back box depth is required for safe installation. The screwless cover plate adds 4.3mm of projection from the wall once fitted, giving one of the slimmest profiles in the Knightsbridge range.

Can this be used in bathrooms?

The IP20 rating means this socket is suitable for dry indoor locations only. It is not rated for use in bathrooms, outdoor locations, or any environment where moisture may be present.
