Description

The Knightsbridge CU8331W is a 45A double-pole switch in a 1-gang plate format, finished in white with a gently contoured 7mm profile and rounded edges. The rocker mechanism controls a 45A load on 230V mains, typically used for electric cookers, ovens, hobs and other high-draw kitchen appliances that require isolation switching beyond the 13A rating of standard socket outlets.

Designed for residential kitchen installation, the switch fits a standard 1-gang back box with a minimum depth of 47mm and mounts flush to the wall. The double-pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines when the switch is turned off, providing full electrical isolation for the appliance circuit rather than just breaking the live connection. The white rocker shows a red 'ON' indicator when the switch is in the closed position.

The faceplate is made from thermoset resin with anti-microbial properties tested to ISO 22196:2011, reducing bacterial growth on the switch surface in high-contact kitchen environments. The 7mm contoured profile and rounded edges give a softer visual presence than square-edged plates, and the white finish integrates cleanly with standard white wall finishes and kitchen cabinetry. Screw cap covers are included to conceal the fixing screws once the plate is fitted.

Knightsbridge certifies this switch to EN 60669-1 and backs it with a 25-year warranty against manufacturing defects. The IP20 rating confirms the switch is suitable for dry indoor locations but not for outdoor use or damp zones such as bathrooms.

Frequently Asked

What appliances is a 45A switch used for?

45A switches are typically installed as isolation switches for electric cookers, ovens, hobs and other fixed kitchen appliances that draw more current than a standard 13A socket can handle. The switch allows the appliance to be isolated for maintenance without needing to access the consumer unit.

What back box depth is required?

A minimum 47mm back box depth is needed for safe installation. The 7mm faceplate projection adds to this, giving a total depth of approximately 54mm from the wall surface to the back of the mounting box.

What does double-pole switching mean?

Double-pole switching isolates both the live and neutral connections when the switch is turned off, rather than just breaking the live line. This provides full electrical isolation of the appliance circuit, which is safer for maintenance and required by UK wiring regulations for certain high-load appliances.

Are the screw caps included?

Yes. White screw cap covers are supplied with the switch to conceal the fixing screws once the faceplate is mounted, giving a cleaner finished appearance.
