Description

The Knightsbridge 45A DP cooker switch provides isolation control for electric cookers, hobs and ranges up to 45A (10,350W at 230V). The double-pole switching isolates both live and neutral conductors, ensuring the appliance cannot be energised when the switch is in the off position. A red neon indicator shows when the circuit is live, providing a visual safety cue during maintenance or cleaning.

Designed for kitchen installation where a dedicated cooker circuit needs a local isolation point, the switch sits in a standard 1-gang 87.5mm wall box and requires 47mm minimum back box depth. The screwless polished chrome faceplate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame, leaving no visible screws or fixings on the wall once installed. The unit handles single appliances or multiple appliances on the same circuit provided the combined load does not exceed 45A.

The polished chrome finish provides a reflective metallic surface that pairs well with stainless steel appliances and contemporary kitchen hardware. The premium-grade steel construction and IP20 rating suit standard indoor kitchen environments. The switch carries a 25-year manufacturer warranty and meets Class I earthing requirements for safe installation on UK mains circuits.

Frequently Asked

What does the 45A rating mean?

45A at 230V allows the switch to control appliances drawing up to 10,350W. Most domestic electric cookers and ranges fall within this rating. Induction hobs and dual-fuel ranges typically draw 30-40A at peak load, making this switch suitable for most residential kitchens.

What does double-pole switching provide?

Double-pole (DP) switching isolates both the live and neutral conductors when the switch is turned off, providing complete circuit isolation. This is a safety requirement for high-current appliances like electric cookers, preventing any current flow during maintenance or cleaning.

What does the neon indicator show?

The red neon indicator lights up when the circuit is live and the switch is in the on position. This provides a visual confirmation that power is flowing to the appliance, useful during troubleshooting or when confirming the circuit has been isolated before maintenance.

Is the screwless plate removable for redecorating?

Yes. The polished chrome cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box. The cover can be removed for painting or tiling around the switch and re-clipped without disturbing the wiring.
