Description

The Knightsbridge 45A DP cooker control unit combines a double-pole 45A switch with a 13A switched socket and two USB-A charging ports (5V DC 2.4A shared output) in a single matt black screwless faceplate. The 45A switch isolates high-load cooking appliances such as electric cookers and ranges, while the 13A socket provides a standard outlet for smaller kitchen appliances. The dual USB ports sit above the socket, offering device charging without occupying the 13A outlet.

Designed for kitchen installation where Building Regulations require a cooker isolation switch within 2 metres of the appliance, this unit adds functional value by incorporating the 13A socket and USB charging in what would otherwise be unused faceplate area. The double-pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines when the cooker circuit is turned off, preventing accidental operation during maintenance or cleaning. Neon indicators on both the 45A and 13A switches confirm when each circuit is live.

The screwless cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box, hiding all screws and fixings once installed. The matt black finish is a powder-coated steel with a low-sheen surface that resists fingerprints and integrates well with contemporary, industrial and matt-black appliance kitchens. The built-in gasket around the plate edges reduces dust ingress. Certified to BS 4177, BS 1363-2 and EN 62368-1, the unit requires a minimum 47mm back box depth for safe installation.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between single-pole and double-pole switching?

Double-pole (DP) switching isolates both the live and neutral conductors when the switch is turned off, completely disconnecting the appliance from the mains supply. Single-pole switches only break the live conductor. DP switching is required by Building Regulations for cooker isolation switches and provides additional safety during appliance maintenance.

What back box depth is required?

A minimum 47mm back box depth is needed for safe installation. The 4.3mm projection of the screwless cover plate is measured from the wall surface once the plate is clipped onto the sub-frame.

What's the USB charging output?

The dual USB-A ports provide a shared 5V DC 2.4A output. This is sufficient to charge two smartphones simultaneously or a single tablet. Use certified USB cables to ensure compatibility and safe charging.

Can the 13A socket be used independently of the 45A switch?

Yes. The 13A socket has its own independent switch and can be used for standard kitchen appliances regardless of whether the 45A cooker circuit is switched on or off. The two circuits are electrically separate and wired to different terminals inside the unit.
