Description

The Knightsbridge 24DC40 is a 40W constant voltage LED driver that converts 230V 50Hz mains input to a 24V DC output for powering LED strip lighting, tape lights and other low-voltage LED installations. The driver maintains a steady 24V output across varying loads up to 40W maximum, making it suitable for runs of LED tape where consistent brightness is required regardless of the length of the run.

Designed for residential and commercial LED installations, the driver fits inside ceiling voids, under kitchen cabinets, behind coving or inside wardrobes where LED tape is being installed. The white polycarbonate housing measures 166mm long by 52mm wide by 24mm high, compact enough to fit in tight spaces but large enough to house the internal circuitry and heat management. Captured terminal screws on both input and output sides simplify wiring without needing separate terminal blocks.

The driver carries IP20 ingress protection, making it suitable for dry internal locations but not bathrooms, kitchens where splash contact is likely, or any outdoor application. Class II double-insulated construction means no earth connection is required. Built-in protections include open circuit (the driver shuts down if the load is disconnected), short circuit (shuts down if output wires touch), thermal overload (shuts down if internal temperature exceeds safe limits) and overload (shuts down if the connected LED load exceeds 40W). These protections reset automatically once the fault condition is removed.

This driver is non-dimmable. Attempting to dim the mains input with a standard phase-cut dimmer will cause flicker, noise or driver failure. For dimmable 24V LED installations, a compatible dimmable driver is required.

Frequently Asked

What length of LED tape can this driver power?

That depends on the wattage per metre of the LED tape you're using. If your tape draws 8W per metre, this 40W driver can power up to 5 metres. If your tape draws 12W per metre, the driver can power approximately 3.3 metres. Check the LED tape specification for its power draw and divide 40W by that figure.

Can this driver be dimmed?

No. This is a non-dimmable driver. Installing it on a dimmed circuit will cause flicker, buzzing or driver failure. If dimming is required, a compatible dimmable LED driver must be used instead.

Where can the driver be installed?

The IP20 rating means the driver is suitable for dry internal locations only. Typical installations include inside ceiling voids above LED coving, under kitchen cabinets for plinth or under-cabinet tape lighting, inside wardrobes for LED shelf lighting, or behind false walls. Do not install in bathrooms, kitchens where splash contact is likely, or any outdoor location.

Does it need an earth connection?

No. The driver is Class II double-insulated, which means no earth connection is required. The mains input requires only live and neutral connections.
