Description

The Knightsbridge LWBMIC is a 360° microwave presence sensor designed specifically for the LWB90 and LWB165 high bay and low bay LED fittings. The sensor provides continuous motion detection across an 8m radius at a 6m installation height, automatically dimming the connected luminaire when no movement is detected and returning to full brightness when presence is sensed.

Installed in warehouses, workshops, storage facilities, gymnasiums and commercial spaces where occupancy varies throughout the day, the sensor reduces energy consumption by dimming the fitting to a standby level during periods of inactivity rather than switching it off completely. This preserves some visibility in the space while cutting operating costs, and avoids the abrupt on-off cycling that shortens LED driver life. The 0-10V output connects directly to compatible LWB luminaire drivers, controlling brightness from full output down to a minimum dimmed level set by the user.

The polycarbonate housing carries an IP65 rating, making the sensor suitable for dusty, damp or open-to-weather installations where standard indoor PIR sensors would fail. All adjustment dials are sealed inside the casing: hold time at full brightness adjusts from 5 seconds to 30 minutes, standby dimmed period runs from 10 seconds to constant low-level output, lux threshold adjusts from 2 to 120 lux or disables daylight harvesting entirely, and detection sensitivity runs from 50% to 100% to prevent false triggers from vibration or small movements in the detection zone.

The sensor mounts into the luminaire body via a gland nut fitting on a 500mm cable tail, allowing it to be positioned centrally within the beam spread of the light. The white polycarbonate finish matches standard commercial ceiling treatments and the 80mm diameter keeps the sensor visually discreet when surface-mounted or ceiling-recessed. Class II insulation means no earth connection is required during installation.

Frequently Asked

Which Knightsbridge fittings is this sensor compatible with?

The LWBMIC is designed for use with the LWB90 and LWB165 high bay and low bay LED luminaires. It connects via a 0-10V dimming interface, so it requires a compatible driver in the host fitting.

What is the detection range and coverage pattern?

The sensor provides 360° coverage in all directions with an optimum detection range of up to 8m radius when installed at a 6m ceiling height. Detection range decreases at lower mounting heights and increases slightly at higher mounting positions.

How does the corridor dimming function work?

When no presence is detected, the sensor dims the connected luminaire to a pre-set standby level rather than switching it off entirely. This maintains low-level visibility in the space while reducing energy consumption. The standby period can be set from 10 seconds to constant dimmed output.

Can the sensor be used outdoors?

Yes. The IP65 rating protects the sensor against dust ingress and water jets from any direction, making it suitable for covered outdoor areas, open warehouses, and damp industrial environments.
