Description

The Knightsbridge 25W constant current LED driver delivers a regulated 700mA output across an 18-36V voltage range, designed to power LED lighting installations where consistent current matters more than voltage. The driver converts 230V 50Hz mains input to the lower-voltage DC output required by most LED arrays, maintaining stable light output regardless of minor voltage fluctuations.

Intended for ceiling void, wall cavity or under-cabinet installation where the driver sits out of sight behind or above the LED fittings themselves, the unit measures 120mm long by 45mm wide by 28mm high and fits most standard ceiling void depths. The white polycarbonate housing carries Class II double-insulation and an IP20 rating, meaning it's suitable for dry indoor locations but not bathrooms, wet rooms or outdoor use without additional IP-rated enclosures.

Dimming compatibility is limited to trailing-edge dimmers only — the driver does not work with leading-edge phase-cut dimmers or some older rotary dimmers. Knightsbridge recommends checking specific dimmer compatibility before installation, as behaviour varies between dimmer brands and models. The constant current output means the driver pairs with LED arrays rated at 700mA, which covers many downlight modules, LED strips rated for constant current operation, and some low-voltage architectural lighting systems.

The 3-year warranty covers manufacturing defects and component failure under normal operating conditions within the stated temperature range. What's the difference between constant current and constant voltage?

Constant current drivers maintain a fixed current output (in this case 700mA) while voltage varies within a range (18-36V). Constant voltage drivers do the opposite, maintaining fixed voltage (usually 12V or 24V) while current varies. Most high-power LED arrays and downlight modules require constant current operation to prevent thermal runaway and maintain consistent brightness.

Can I use this with any dimmer switch?

No. This driver is compatible only with trailing-edge (reverse phase-cut) dimmers. It will not work correctly with leading-edge dimmers, rotary resistive dimmers, or some older electronic dimmers. Check the dimmer datasheet or contact the dimmer manufacturer to confirm trailing-edge compatibility before pairing.

Where should the driver be installed?

The driver should be installed in a dry, ventilated location such as a ceiling void, wall cavity or under-cabinet space where air can circulate around the housing. It carries an IP20 rating, so it's not suitable for bathrooms, wet rooms or outdoor locations unless placed inside a separate IP65-rated enclosure.
