20AX Intermediate Module - Matt White

The Knightsbridge 20AX intermediate module is a matt white switch module designed for use in Knightsbridge grid wiring systems. It provides an intermediate switching function rated at 20A, allowing a single light circuit to be controlled from three or more locations when used in combination with two-way modules. The module clips into position from the front of a Knightsbridge grid mounting frame without tools.

Intermediate modules are used in three-way and four-way lighting circuits in larger rooms, hallways, staircases and commercial spaces where switching from multiple locations is needed. The grid system allows multiple switch modules to be combined in a single frame, so a two-gang, three-gang or four-gang grid plate can hold any combination of intermediate, two-way, one-way, dimmer or retractive modules depending on wiring requirements. The 20AX rating handles lighting loads up to 4,600W on 230V circuits.

The module body is ABS plastic with steel terminal contacts, finished in matt white to match standard UK wiring accessories. The front face measures 56.3mm high by 24.8mm wide, fitting a single grid position in Knightsbridge mounting frames. The module requires a minimum 35mm back box depth for safe installation and carries an IP20 rating for indoor use. Knightsbridge backs this module with a 25-year warranty.

What is an intermediate switch and when is it needed?

An intermediate switch allows a single light or circuit to be controlled from three or more locations. It sits between two two-way switches in the circuit. For example, a staircase light controlled from ground floor, landing and top floor would use two two-way modules and one intermediate module.

Does this module include the mounting frame and faceplate?

No. This is the switch module only. You need to purchase a Knightsbridge grid mounting frame and a separate grid faceplate to complete the installation. Frames and faceplates are sold separately and come in different gang configurations and finishes.

What back box depth is required?

A 35mm minimum back box depth is needed for safe installation. The module recesses 18.7mm into the back box and projects 7mm from the front of the mounting frame once fitted.

Can this be mixed with other module types in the same frame?

Yes. Knightsbridge grid modules are modular by design. A two-gang frame can hold any combination of intermediate, two-way, one-way, dimmer or retractive modules depending on your wiring requirements, allowing custom switch configurations in a single plate.
