Description

The Knightsbridge 20AX DP grid module is a single-gang switch unit designed for installation in modular grid systems, where individual switches, sockets and dimmers are clipped into a shared mounting frame rather than installed as standalone faceplates. The module measures 24.8mm wide (one grid module position) and clips into the front of Knightsbridge grid mounting frames sold separately.

The double pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines when the switch is turned off, providing additional safety over single-pole switching for high-draw appliances or circuits where complete isolation is required. The 20AX rating handles loads up to 4,600W on 230V mains, making it suitable for immersion heaters, storage heaters, water heaters and other high-current applications beyond the 10A limit of standard lighting switches.

The polished chrome rocker sits flush with a white ABS surround, giving the module a clean metallic accent when installed in a multi-gang grid plate. The module requires a 35mm minimum mounting box depth once the grid frame and cover plate are added. The construction combines ABS for the surround and steel for the internal mechanism, and the module carries IP20 rating for general indoor use.

Frequently Asked

What is a grid system and do I need a mounting frame?

Grid systems allow you to build custom switch plates by clipping individual modules into a shared mounting frame. This module requires a Knightsbridge grid mounting frame (sold separately) and a compatible grid cover plate to complete the installation. You cannot install this module without the frame.

What is the difference between 20AX and 10AX switching?

20AX switches are rated for loads up to 4,600W on 230V mains, double the capacity of standard 10A lighting switches. This makes 20AX modules suitable for immersion heaters, storage heaters, and other high-current appliances that would exceed a 10A rating.

What does double pole (DP) mean?

Double pole switching isolates both the live and neutral lines when the switch is turned off, providing complete circuit isolation. Single-pole switches only isolate the live line. DP switching is typically used for high-power appliances and circuits where full isolation is needed for safety.

What back box depth is needed?

The module itself requires 35mm minimum back box depth once the grid frame and cover plate are fitted. Standard 35mm back boxes are typically adequate for single or double grid frames; deeper boxes may be needed for three-gang or larger grid assemblies.
