This Knightsbridge 20AX double pole grid module integrates an LED status indicator into a single-width matt white rocker that clips into modular grid mounting frames. The 20A rating handles circuits up to 4,600W on 230V mains, making it suitable for high-draw appliances such as immersion heaters, cooker circuits and fixed appliances where load exceeds the 13A capacity of a standard socket outlet.

Designed for use within grid systems where multiple modules are grouped together in a single faceplate, the module fits a 35mm minimum back box depth and measures 24.8mm wide by 56.3mm high. The module clips into position on the front of the grid mounting frame without requiring individual screw fixings, allowing installers to assemble multi-gang configurations before securing the complete assembly to the back box. The LED indicator illuminates when the circuit is live, providing visible confirmation of status without needing a multimeter.

The double pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines when switched off, offering additional safety for high-draw appliances compared to single-pole switching. The matt white ABS rocker and steel contact mechanism provide durability under frequent switching, and the rocker is non-replaceable as part of the module design. The IP20 rating limits use to dry indoor locations — the module is not suitable for bathrooms, outdoor installations or any area exposed to moisture.

What is a grid module and how does it differ from a standard switch?

Grid modules are individual switch or socket components designed to clip into a separate mounting frame, allowing multiple modules to be grouped together in a single faceplate. This differs from standard switches where the rocker, mechanism and faceplate are supplied as a complete unit. Grid systems allow custom configurations — for example, combining three light switches, one dimmer and a socket in a single 5-gang plate.

What back box and mounting frame are needed?

This module requires a 35mm minimum back box depth and a Knightsbridge grid mounting frame (sold separately). The mounting frame fixes to the back box and the module clips into the frame from the front. Frames are available in 1-gang, 2-gang, 3-gang, 4-gang and larger configurations depending on how many modules you need to group together.

What does the 20AX rating mean?

20AX indicates the module is rated for 20 amps on AC mains and is suitable for inductive loads such as motors and transformers. This is a higher rating than the 20A specification often used for resistive-only loads, making it appropriate for appliances with inductive components like washing machines and refrigerators as well as high-draw resistive appliances like immersion heaters.

Can the LED indicator be turned off?

No. The LED is integrated into the module and illuminates whenever the circuit is live. This is a functional feature designed to provide visible confirmation of circuit status and cannot be disabled.
