Description
The Knightsbridge 20AX DP grid module is a single-gang-width switch component designed for use within Knightsbridge's modular Grid system. It provides a double-pole 20-amp switch in a white UREA finish, measuring 24.8mm wide and 56.3mm tall. The module clips into compatible Grid mounting frames (sold separately) from the front, allowing it to be fitted or removed without disturbing the back box or adjacent modules.
Double-pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines when the switch is off, providing additional safety over single-pole switching for circuits controlling high-draw appliances, water heaters, or dedicated spur outlets. The 20AX rating handles loads up to 4,600W on 230V mains, making it suitable for residential kitchens, utility rooms, and light commercial installations where individual circuits need dedicated isolation.
The Grid system allows multiple modules to be combined side-by-side within a single faceplate, so a 2-gang or 3-gang frame can hold different combinations of switches, sockets, dimmers, and data modules. The white UREA finish is harder-wearing than standard ABS plastic and resists yellowing over time, maintaining a clean appearance in high-traffic areas. The module requires a minimum 35mm back box depth and carries an IP20 rating for dry indoor use.

Frequently Asked
What is the Knightsbridge Grid system?
The Grid system allows individual switch, socket, dimmer and data modules to be combined within a single mounting frame and faceplate. A 2-gang frame can hold two modules, a 3-gang frame holds three, and so on. Modules clip in from the front of the frame, making configuration changes possible without re-wiring.
What mounting frame is needed?
This module requires a compatible Knightsbridge Grid mounting frame, sold separately. The frame fixes to a standard 35mm minimum depth back box, and the module clips into the frame from the front. Check that the frame has sufficient module positions for your configuration.
What does 20AX mean?
20AX indicates a 20-amp rated switch suitable for inductive loads (the "X" denotes this). It can handle up to 4,600W on 230V mains and is commonly used for circuits controlling appliances, water heaters, or dedicated spur outlets where high currents are expected.
Can the module be used in bathrooms?
The IP20 rating means the module is not protected against water ingress and must be installed outside bathroom zones where water contact is possible. For bathroom installations, position the switch outside the defined zones or use an IP-rated pull-cord switch instead.
