Description
The Knightsbridge GDM001MB is a 20AX 2-way single pole grid module finished in matt black, designed to clip into standard grid mounting frames (sold separately) from the front. The 20AX rating handles lighting circuits and other loads up to 4,600W on 230V mains, making it suitable for residential, commercial and light industrial installations where modular switching is needed.
Grid modules allow multiple switches, sockets and control devices to be grouped in a single faceplate assembly, rather than fitting individual switch boxes across a wall. This module works within Knightsbridge's grid system: mount the metal grid frame to a back box, clip the modules into position from the front, then fit the matching grid faceplate over the assembly. The 2-way configuration allows the module to be paired with another switch to control the same circuit from two locations, typical for staircases, hallways and rooms with multiple entry points.
The module measures 56.3mm high by 24.8mm wide, fitting a single-width grid position. The matt black finish on the rocker provides a low-sheen surface that hides fingerprints and pairs with contemporary, industrial and monochrome interiors. Construction is ABS and steel, with an IP20 rating for standard indoor use. The 35mm minimum back box depth requirement matches most UK dry-lining boxes and standard surface-mount pattresses.

Frequently Asked
What is a grid module and how is it installed?
Grid modules are individual switches, sockets or control devices that clip into a shared metal mounting frame, allowing multiple functions to be grouped in a single faceplate. The metal grid frame fixes to a standard back box, then modules clip into position from the front without tools. A matching grid faceplate covers the assembly once all modules are fitted.
What does 2-way single pole mean?
2-way means the module can be paired with another switch to control the same circuit from two different locations, such as a light controlled from both ends of a hallway. Single pole (SP) means the switch breaks only the live conductor, which is standard for UK lighting circuits rated below 20A.
What mounting frame and faceplate does this require?
This module requires a Knightsbridge grid mounting frame and a matching grid faceplate, both sold separately. Frames are available in 1-, 2-, 3- and 4-gang widths. Choose the frame width based on how many modules you need to fit, then select a faceplate in the finish that matches your interior.
Can this be used for dimming?
No. This is a standard on/off 2-way switch module rated at 20AX. For dimming, you would need a dedicated grid dimmer module from the Knightsbridge range.
