Description

The Knightsbridge GDM004U is a 20AX 2-way single pole grid module with a centre-off switch position, allowing control of two separate circuits from a single switch mechanism. The module clips into the front of Knightsbridge Grid mounting frames (sold separately), forming part of a modular switch and socket system where individual modules are combined to create custom configurations.

Designed for residential, commercial and light industrial installation, the centre-off position provides an off state between the two switched circuits, preventing both from being live simultaneously. This configuration suits applications where dual circuit control is needed without overlap, such as switching between two lighting zones or controlling separate appliance circuits from one control point. The 20AX rating handles loads up to 4,600W on 230V mains.

The module body is constructed from white UREA polymer with an ABS mounting plate and steel terminals. At 24.8mm wide, the module occupies one standard Grid space and can be combined with other Grid modules (switches, sockets, dimmers, data outlets) in frames ranging from 1-gang to 6-gang width. The minimum 35mm back box depth requirement is standard for Grid installations and the IP20 rating suits dry indoor locations.

Frequently Asked

What does centre-off mean?

Centre-off means the switch has three positions: up (circuit 1 on), centre (both circuits off), and down (circuit 2 on). Both circuits cannot be live at the same time, as the centre position breaks both connections.

What Grid frame does this fit?

The module fits any Knightsbridge Grid mounting frame. At 24.8mm wide it occupies one Grid space, so it can be used in 1-gang, 2-gang, 3-gang, 4-gang, 5-gang or 6-gang Grid frames. Frames are sold separately.

What back box depth is required?

A 35mm minimum back box depth is needed. This is the standard depth for Grid installations and accommodates the module plus the mounting frame.

What is the 20AX rating?

20AX is the switch rating, indicating it can handle 20 amps of resistive load at 230V (up to 4,600W). The 'AX' designation is a British Standard rating for switches controlling inductive loads such as fluorescent lighting or motors.
