Description

The Knightsbridge 20AX retractive switch module is a single pole, 2-way switch rated at 20A and 250V, with a brushed chrome finish over an ABS and steel construction. The module clips into Knightsbridge grid mounting frames from the front without tools, and the rocker is marked PRESS to indicate its retractive (momentary) action rather than latching.

Designed for use in grid wiring systems where multiple modules are grouped behind a single faceplate, the retractive action returns the switch to its neutral position after being pressed. This makes it suitable for door entry releases, stairwell timers, bell pushes, and lighting control systems where the switch needs to send a pulse rather than hold a position. The 2-way configuration allows the module to be wired in series with another switch to control a single circuit from two locations.

The module measures 56.3mm high by 24.8mm wide, fitting a single grid space in Knightsbridge's modular system. The brushed chrome finish matches other modules in the range, allowing coordinated multi-gang plates. The 20AX rating handles higher loads than standard 10AX switches, making it suitable for larger lighting circuits, small motors and similar applications up to 4,600W on 230V supply. The module requires a minimum 35mm back box depth for installation.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between retractive and latching switches?

A retractive switch returns to its neutral position after being pressed, sending a momentary pulse to the circuit. A latching switch stays in the on or off position until pressed again. Retractive switches are used for door releases, timers and pulse control systems, while latching switches are standard on/off light switches.

What grid frame does this module fit?

This module clips into Knightsbridge grid mounting frames (sold separately). The module is 24.8mm wide, occupying one grid space. Knightsbridge grid frames are available in 1, 2, 3 and 4-module widths with screwed or screwless faceplates in various finishes.

What's the maximum load for a 20AX switch?

20AX at 250V provides a maximum resistive load capacity of 4,600W. This is higher than standard 10AX switches (2,300W), making it suitable for larger lighting circuits, small motors and higher-draw appliances. Inductive or capacitive loads may require derating.

Can this be used with LED lighting?

Yes, but as a retractive switch it's typically used as a control input to a lighting control system or timer rather than directly switching LED lamps. If wired directly to LED loads, ensure the total load stays within the module's rating and check compatibility with dimmable LEDs if applicable.
