Description

The Knightsbridge NET12WBK is a 20AX 1-gang intermediate modular rocker switch in a 50x50mm euro module format, finished in matt black ABS. An intermediate switch allows control of a single light circuit from three or more positions, working alongside two-way switches at the start and end of the switching sequence. The wide 50x50mm rocker provides a larger contact area than standard 25x50mm modules, making the switch easier to operate in the dark or with wet hands.

Designed for residential and commercial installations using euro modular systems, the switch clips into any compatible modular faceplate from the Knightsbridge GRID or Modular Metal ranges. The 25mm minimum mounting box depth allows it to fit shallow back boxes common in stud wall and plasterboard installations. The 20AX rating handles lighting loads up to 4,600W on 230V circuits, making it suitable for high-wattage circuits including multiple spotlights or large pendant arrays.

The matt black ABS construction provides impact resistance and a low-sheen finish that minimises fingerprints and glare under artificial lighting. The rocker mechanism uses a positive-action contact that clicks audibly when switched, giving tactile feedback. The IP20 rating confirms the switch is designed for dry indoor environments rather than bathrooms, kitchens or outdoor locations requiring higher ingress protection.

Frequently Asked

What is an intermediate switch and when is it needed?

An intermediate switch allows a single light to be controlled from three or more positions. It sits between two two-way switches in a circuit, so for example a landing light might be controlled by a two-way at the bottom of the stairs, an intermediate on the landing, and a two-way at the top of the upper floor. For two-position control only, use two-way switches instead.

What euro modular faceplates is this compatible with?

The 50x50mm module fits any Knightsbridge GRID or Modular Metal euro faceplate. Faceplates are available in 1-6 module widths and various finishes including brushed chrome, polished chrome, black nickel and matt black. Modules and faceplates are sold separately.

Can this be used in a bathroom or kitchen?

The IP20 rating means it is designed for dry indoor locations only. For bathrooms and kitchens, switches must be installed outside zone areas or use higher IP-rated products designed for damp environments. Consult Part P Building Regulations and BS 7671 wiring regulations before installation in wet areas.

What is the difference between 25x50mm and 50x50mm modules?

Both fit the same euro modular faceplate grid. The 50x50mm wide rocker module occupies two module spaces horizontally but provides a larger rocker surface, making it easier to locate and press. The 25x50mm occupies one module space and is used where more modules need to fit in a single faceplate.
