Description
The Knightsbridge 18W T8 LED tube is a 1212mm glass tube with integrated driver that runs directly on 230V mains, designed as a drop-in replacement for fluorescent T8 tubes. It outputs 2230 lumens at 6000K daylight colour temperature with a 270-degree beam spread, delivering 132lm/W efficacy and instant ignition without warm-up delay or flicker.
Designed for workshops, warehouses, retail stockrooms, garages and commercial kitchens where high visibility and colour accuracy matter, the tube fits standard T8 batten fittings once the ballast and starter are bypassed and the fitting is rewired for direct mains connection. The 6000K output provides crisp white light that renders colours accurately under the >80 CRI rating, making it suitable for inspection tasks, product display and areas requiring clear differentiation between similar tones.
The tube body combines glass construction with polycarbonate end caps and an opal diffuser that softens the LED diode pattern into even light distribution along the 1212mm length. The 27mm diameter matches standard T8 fittings without modification. At 18W the tube replaces 36W or 58W fluorescent equivalents depending on phosphor efficiency, cutting energy consumption by half to two-thirds while delivering comparable or higher lumen output. The non-dimmable driver provides stable light output across mains voltage fluctuations and the L70B50 rating of 20,000 hours indicates the point at which 50% of a batch will have dropped to 70% of initial output.
The IP20 rating limits the tube to dry indoor environments — it is not suitable for bathroom zones, outdoor use or unheated outbuildings subject to condensation. The tube carries a 2-year warranty and meets UK Energy Rating Class E under post-2021 SLR regulations.

Frequently Asked
Does this tube work in existing fluorescent fittings?
The tube fits standard T8 batten fittings but requires the ballast and starter to be removed and the fitting rewired for direct 230V mains connection. This is not a plug-and-play retrofit — a qualified electrician must modify the fitting before the LED tube can be installed safely.
What's the difference between 6000K and lower colour temperatures?
6000K is classified as daylight and produces a crisp, blue-toned white light that mimics midday outdoor light. Lower temperatures like 4000K (neutral white) or 3000K (warm white) produce softer, yellower light. 6000K suits task-focused environments like workshops and inspection areas where colour accuracy and alertness matter.
How long does the tube last?
The L70B50 rating of 20,000 hours means that after 20,000 hours of operation, 50% of a batch will have dropped to 70% of their original brightness. At 12 hours per day that equates to approximately 4.5 years before noticeable dimming.
Can this tube be dimmed?
No. The integrated driver is non-dimmable and the tube will not respond to dimmer switches. Attempting to dim the tube may cause flicker, buzzing or premature driver failure.
