Description

This Knightsbridge 13A switched fused spur unit controls power to a fixed appliance such as a boiler, extractor fan or air conditioning unit from a single switched outlet. A red neon indicator on the faceplate shows when the spur is switched on, providing immediate visual confirmation of live supply to the connected appliance. The unit fits behind a matt black screwless faceplate that clips onto a separate metal sub-frame, concealing all fixings once installed.

Designed for residential, commercial and hospitality installations where fixed appliances need isolating without unplugging or removing the appliance itself, the fused spur provides both switching and overcurrent protection. The 13A rating handles loads up to 3,120W on 230V mains. The unit requires a 25mm minimum back box depth and meets BS 1363-4 certification for fused connection units.

The matt black finish is a low-sheen powder-coated steel that resists fingerprints and pairs cleanly with contemporary, industrial and monochrome interiors. The screwless cover plate includes a built-in gasket that sits flush against the wall surface, giving a smooth edge and concealing the joint between faceplate and back box. The matching black fuse holder and rocker switch maintain a consistent finish across the entire unit.

Frequently Asked

What appliances is a fused spur used for?

Fused spurs are used for fixed appliances that need a permanent power supply with local switching and overcurrent protection. Common applications include boilers, extractor fans, air conditioning units, water heaters, electric towel rails and kitchen appliances that are hard-wired rather than plugged in. The 13A rating suits appliances drawing up to 3,120W on 230V mains.

What does the neon indicator show?

The red neon indicator illuminates when the switch is in the on position and the circuit is live. This provides immediate visual confirmation that power is being supplied to the connected appliance, which is useful for appliances without their own indicator lights or for confirming isolation during maintenance.

What back box depth is required?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed for safe installation. The screwless cover plate adds 4.3mm of projection from the wall once fitted. The unit is designed to work with standard UK single-gang back boxes.

Is the screwless plate removable for redecorating?

Yes. The matt black cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame that is fixed to the back box. The cover can be removed for painting or wallpapering around the spur and re-clipped without disturbing the wiring. The built-in gasket maintains a flush fit when re-installed.
