Description

This Knightsbridge 13A switched fused spur unit provides a switched outlet for fixed appliances, with a flex outlet at the base of the plate for direct cable connection. The unit is built from white thermoset resin moulded into a gently contoured 10mm-thick plate with rounded edges, giving a soft profile against the wall. The switch isolates the fused connection, and the fuse carrier accepts a standard 13A fuse cartridge.

Designed for hardwired appliances such as immersion heaters, extractor fans, heating controls, or kitchen equipment where a flex cable needs to exit downwards from the unit rather than through the back box. The flex outlet is moulded into the base of the plate, so the cable runs down the wall surface or behind a worktop plinth rather than back into the wall cavity. The 25mm minimum back box depth accommodates standard single-gang metal boxes used in UK wiring.

The thermoset resin construction carries anti-microbial properties tested to ISO 22196:2011, reducing bacterial growth on the plate surface. This makes the unit appropriate for kitchens, bathrooms, care facilities and clinical environments where hygiene standards require regular surface cleaning. The plate includes screw cap covers that hide the fixing screws once installed, and a built-in gasket seals the plate edges against the wall. Certified to BS 1363-2, the unit carries a 25-year warranty.

Frequently Asked

What is a fused spur unit used for?

A fused spur unit provides a switched, fused connection for a fixed appliance that does not use a plug and socket. Common uses include immersion heaters, extractor fans, heating controls, and hardwired kitchen appliances. The switch allows the appliance to be isolated without accessing the consumer unit, and the fuse provides overcurrent protection specific to the appliance.

Why does this unit have a flex outlet from the base?

The flex outlet at the base of the plate allows the cable to exit downwards rather than through the back of the unit. This is useful when the appliance cable needs to run down a wall surface, behind a kitchen plinth, or along a skirting board rather than back into the wall cavity.

What back box depth is required?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is required for safe installation. The unit fits standard single-gang metal back boxes used in UK electrical installations.

What does the anti-microbial property mean?

The thermoset resin plate is treated to reduce bacterial growth on the surface, tested to ISO 22196:2011. This makes the unit appropriate for kitchens, bathrooms, care facilities and clinical environments where hygiene standards require regular surface cleaning and low microbial presence on touched surfaces.
