Description

The Knightsbridge 10AX fan isolator switch provides a triple-pole switching mechanism for isolating extractor fans in bathrooms, utility rooms and kitchens. The switch sits behind an anthracite screwless cover plate made from premium-grade steel, measuring 87.5mm square with a 4.3mm projection from the wall once fitted.

Designed for installation in dry indoor areas (IP20 rating), the switch uses a 3-pole configuration that disconnects live, neutral and switched live lines when turned off, providing full electrical isolation of the fan circuit. The screwless cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box, hiding all fixing points from view once installed. A built-in gasket between the cover plate and sub-frame reduces dust ingress and provides a clean seal against the wall.

The anthracite finish is a dark grey powder-coated steel that sits between matt black and mid-grey, pairing with industrial, modern and monochrome interiors. The 10AX rating handles loads up to 2,300W on 230V, which covers all standard domestic extractor fans, bathroom fans and kitchen cooker hood extractors. The switch requires a 16mm minimum back box depth, making it compatible with shallow mounting boxes in stud walls and plasterboard partitions.

Certified to EN 60669-1 and EN 60669-2-4 standards and backed by a 25-year warranty, the switch uses brass terminals with captive screws for secure cable connection. The faceplate includes raised lettering marking the OFF, ON and fan symbol positions for clear identification during use.

Frequently Asked

What back box depth is required?

A 16mm minimum back box depth is needed for safe installation. This shallow requirement makes the switch suitable for stud walls, plasterboard partitions and surface-mounted back boxes where space behind the wall is limited.

What does triple-pole switching mean?

Triple-pole switching disconnects live, neutral and switched live lines when the switch is turned off. This provides full electrical isolation of the fan circuit, which is required by building regulations for bathroom extractor fans and other permanently-wired appliances.

Can this be used in a bathroom?

The IP20 rating means the switch is suitable for dry indoor areas only. In bathrooms, fan isolator switches must be installed outside the bathroom (typically in a hallway or landing) or within bathroom zones 2 or 3 depending on the specific location. Consult Part P of the Building Regulations or a qualified electrician for bathroom installation.

Is the screwless plate removable for redecorating?

Yes. The anthracite cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box. The cover can be removed for painting or wallpapering around the switch and re-clipped without disturbing the wiring.
