This is the intermediate unit that sits between the two two-way switches, typically used on staircases, long hallways, and multi-access rooms where entry and exit points require control from three locations.

The switch uses a polished chrome faceplate with a rounded edge profile, where the plate curves gently into the wall rather than sitting with a sharp 90-degree corner. The rocker itself is also metal and polished chrome, creating a uniform finish across the entire fitting. The 10AX rating supports lighting loads up to 2,300W on standard 230V circuits, which covers most domestic and light commercial installations including multiple LED downlights, chandeliers, and track lighting runs.

The faceplate is constructed from premium-grade steel with a high-gloss chrome finish that reflects light and provides a clear, mirror-like surface when clean. What is an intermediate switch and when do I need one?

An intermediate switch is used in three-point lighting circuits where you want to control the same light from three locations. The circuit consists of two two-way switches at either end and one intermediate switch in the middle. Common applications include staircases with landings, long hallways with three doorways, and open-plan rooms with multiple access points.

What back box depth is required?

The switch requires a minimum 16mm back box depth, making it suitable for shallow installation in stud walls, dry-lined surfaces, and retrofit applications where cavity depth is limited.

Is the rocker metal or plastic?

The rocker is metal with a matching polished chrome finish, creating a uniform appearance across the entire switch face. This differs from some budget ranges where only the faceplate is metal and the rocker is chrome-effect plastic.

Can the polished chrome be cleaned without scratching?

Polished chrome should be cleaned with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. For fingerprints and smudges, a barely-damp cloth is acceptable. Avoid abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, and household sprays containing ammonia or bleach, as these can scratch or dull the finish over time.
