Description

Wick keeps things quiet and small: a slim satin white pendant, 11cm across, hung from a flex that can sit tight to the ceiling or run right down to five metres. The G9 lampholder takes a compact capsule, and with a suitable lamp and dimmer on the circuit the light can be taken down low. It arrives as the frame alone, so the shade is yours to choose.

A pendant this narrow gives you room to play. We hang these in a row over a kitchen island or a long table, where several slender drops read better than a wide shade, and we use it singly beside a bed or in a reading corner. The generous length of flex earns its keep in a stairwell, above a landing or in a room with a tall ceiling, while a short hang suits a low hallway. It also appeals if you want the fitting itself to recede into a white ceiling and leave the shade to do the talking.

The satin white finish is a soft low sheen rather than a gloss, so it stays discreet whether the lamp is lit or not, and the fitting is double insulated. Dust it with a dry cloth when you think of it, and if it has been hanging in a kitchen, wipe the flex with a barely damp cloth once the power is off and the capsule has gone cold. It carries a one year warranty. Elsewhere in the range the same pendant is offered in metal finishes, among them polished nickel, antique brass and aged pewter, and there is an E27 version for a larger lamp. No lamp comes with it; we would fit a G9 LED capsule of up to 10W.
