Description

Supplied as a frame only, this is a single pendant suspension waiting for a shade of your choosing. The body measures 11cm across and is plated in black chrome, a dark mirrored finish that reads closer to gunmetal than to true black once there is light on it. It takes one E27 lamp, and the flex runs to a full 5m, more than most rooms will ever need and exactly what a tall space asks for. The fitting itself is compact, which is rather the point: it should sit quietly behind whatever you hang on it.

We reach for a long-flex pendant like this where the ceiling is high and the light has to come down to head height: a stairwell, above a kitchen island, a double-height hall, or a dining table set beneath a vaulted roof. The drop is adjusted to suit the room, so the same fitting can hang low over a worktop or run a long way down a void. With a dimmable lamp and a compatible dimmer, the light can be taken right down for the evening. It suits anyone who has already settled on a shade and simply needs a well-made body to hang it from.

The finish is plated rather than painted, so it is far happier with a dry soft cloth than with sprays or metal polish; a wipe whenever you change the lamp is plenty. The fitting is double insulated, and it carries a one year warranty. We stock the same body in antique brass, antique copper and aged pewter for matching to metalwork elsewhere in a room, and the range also runs to G9 versions if you would rather use a smaller lamp. Shade and lamp are both bought separately.

Is a shade included?

No. This is sold as a frame only, which is why it is priced as it is. Choose a shade with an E27 fitting or a suitable ring and it will hang straight from the lampholder.

Which lamp should I use?

One E27 lamp, up to 20W. An LED is the sensible choice, and the shape you pick will depend on the shade: a globe or golfball if the lamp is on show, a standard GLS if it is hidden.

How long is the drop, and can it be shortened?

The flex allows anything from 200mm up to 5000mm, so it can be set tight to the ceiling or taken a long way down a stairwell.

Can I dim it?

Yes, provided you use a dimmable lamp together with a compatible dimmer. Neither is supplied with the pendant.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20, so keep it to dry rooms such as hallways, kitchens, bedrooms and living spaces.

How do I keep the black chrome looking right?

Switch the power off and dust with a dry soft cloth. Avoid abrasive creams and chrome polishes, as plated finishes mark easily under them.
