Description

This is a plain opal white disc of frosted acrylic, 60cm across and slim enough to sit quietly in the line of the fitting it belongs to. The frosting is even from edge to edge, with no pattern and no centre detail, so light passes through as a soft, spread glow rather than a bright spot. Held against a lit lamp it hides the source while giving up very little brightness.

It is a diffuser rather than a light in its own right, so it holds no lamp and no wiring of its own; the fitting it belongs to does that work. A width like this suits the broad flush fittings found in kitchens, hallways, landings and home offices, and we sell a good many of them as replacements where an original panel has yellowed, clouded or cracked. It is also worth a thought where the light in a room feels harder than you would like and the fitting itself is otherwise sound.

Acrylic is light in the hand and far less brittle than glass, which is part of why it is used at this diameter. Cleaning wants a gentle approach: warm water with a little washing up liquid on a soft cloth, then a dry cloth to finish, and nothing gritty or solvent based, as both will scratch and dull the surface. It carries a one year warranty. We stock the same frosted acrylic in several smaller diameters, a number of them with a neat centre detail in polished chrome, satin nickel, antique brass or black, so fittings of different sizes around a house can be kept in step.
