Description

A plain round panel of frosted acrylic, opal white right across, made to sit in place of a diffuser that has cracked, yellowed or gone missing. It measures 30cm across and is slim enough to be almost nothing in the hand, so what you notice is the light rather than the part. Frosting does the work: it takes the hard edge off a bare lamp and spreads the output into an even glow instead of a bright spot.

We reach for this one where a fitting has lost its original diffuser and the maker no longer supplies the part. It suits hallways, landings, bedrooms and utility spaces, anywhere a general ceiling light does the everyday work and glare is the thing you want gone. Because it is non-electrical, it carries no lamp of its own; the light and the socket belong to the fitting it serves, and the lamp you already use there stays as it is. Rented flats and student houses are the usual case, though we sell plenty to people simply tidying up a tired kitchen.

Acrylic is the sensible material here: light in weight, tough, and far less brittle than glass of the same thickness. Keep it clean with warm water, a drop of washing-up liquid and a soft cloth, then dry it; solvents, glass sprays and scouring pads will haze the surface, so leave those alone. It carries a one year warranty. This is the version with no centre detail, and we stock the same panel with a polished chrome, satin nickel, antique brass or black centre if you want a small point of metal in the middle, plus larger sizes in the same range for wider fittings.
