Description

The Mantra Ufo is a 650mm outdoor flush ceiling light built from overlapping polyethylene segments that form a continuous sculptural shell around four E27 bulb fittings. The matt white exterior houses an opal white diffuser inside, softening the light from the four bulbs into diffused ambient illumination suitable for porches, covered patios and entrance canopies.

Rated IP44, the Ufo is protected against solid objects over 1mm and water splashes from any direction, making it suitable for sheltered outdoor locations where direct rainfall does not reach the fitting. The 190mm projection from the ceiling gives clearance for most doorways and covered seating areas without reducing headroom significantly. The four E27 lampholders accept standard screw-fit bulbs up to a combined load appropriate for 220-240V mains supply (see Specification for maximum load).

The polyethylene construction keeps the weight at 3.8kg while providing resistance to UV degradation and temperature variation typical of UK outdoor installations. The overlapping segments create visual depth and shadow lines when lit, contrasting with flat wall surfaces and modern cladding. The opal diffuser prevents direct glare from the bulbs, distributing light evenly across the covered area rather than creating hot spots.

Bulbs are sold separately, allowing selection of colour temperature and output to suit the intended use. A warm-white LED (2700K-3000K) provides ambient light for evening seating, while a cooler LED (4000K) offers clearer task visibility for entrance areas and pathways leading to doors. Dimmable bulbs paired with a compatible dimmer allow output adjustment, though the IP44 rating applies to the fitting only and not to separately installed dimmers.

The Ufo is suitable for covered outdoor areas like porches, canopies and patios where the fitting is sheltered from direct rainfall. It is not rated for fully exposed positions subject to driving rain or submersion.

What bulbs does it take and are they included?

The Ufo takes four E27 screw-fit bulbs, sold separately. Most users pair this with LED bulbs between 6-10W each. Choose warm-white (2700K-3000K) for ambient lighting or cooler tones (4000K) for clearer visibility in entrance areas.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, if dimmable E27 bulbs are fitted and paired with a compatible dimmer switch. The dimmer must be suitable for the bulb type (LED dimmers for LED bulbs). The fitting itself does not include dimming electronics.

What fixing method does it use?

The Ufo fixes directly to a ceiling-mounted junction box or base plate via concealed screws. The polyethylene shell clips or screws onto the base once wiring is complete.
