Description

The Taos head is a broad, low mushroom cap on a short round post, so light is pushed down onto the ground and out to either side rather than up into your eyes. The finish is a dark grey cement, matt and slightly granular, closer to a garden ornament than to a lamp. Inside is an integrated 12W LED at 3000K, a warm white that keeps planting and paving looking natural after dark. It stands 34cm tall and is much the same across the cap, so it reads as a solid low marker rather than a column.

We reach for a bollard like this along a path edge, at the turn of a drive, or set into a planted border where a spike light would look too spindly. Set at each side of a gate it marks the way in, and a run of them down a path lights the surface without lighting the whole garden. It suits gardens where the lighting should stay quiet by day, since the cement grey settles into gravel, stone and dense planting instead of standing out from it. The output is fixed rather than dimmable, so a switched or timed circuit suits it.

The body and cap are cast with a cement finish, and it is built to stand outdoors through a British winter. Care is a rinse with clean water and a wipe over the cap with a damp cloth, plus a brush round the base where leaf litter and grit gather. The LED and driver are built in, so there are no lamps to change. It carries a three year warranty. We also stock a smaller mushroom bollard in the same cement grey, a matching wall light and a ground light; the wall light comes in white cement too if you want a paler tone at eye level.
