Description

The Sonata is a 15cm diameter pendant light built around a stacked hourglass form in graphite-tinted glass, suspended from a polished chrome ceiling rose on an adjustable black cable. A single E27 bulb fitting sits at the centre of the hourglass, behind the graphite glass which tints and diffuses the light outward while leaving the bulb visible through the translucent material.

The Sonata is designed for kitchen islands, hallways, bedside positions and entrance halls where a compact single pendant provides directional task or ambient light without occupying much visual space. The adjustable cable allows drop settings between 535mm and 1500mm on installation, making the Sonata adaptable to ceiling heights from 2.4m upwards. The polished chrome canopy fits standard UK ceiling roses and the hourglass shade itself measures 150mm at its widest point, keeping the pendant compact over small tables or narrow hallway runs.

The graphite glass creates a soft smoke-grey tint when unlit, darkening the appearance of the fitting compared to clear or frosted glass alternatives. When lit, the glass reduces glare from the central bulb while allowing the filament or LED element to remain partially visible through the tint, which works well with decorative Edison-style filament bulbs. The polished chrome hardware reflects surrounding light and provides a cool metallic accent against the warmer tones of the graphite glass.

The 535mm to 1500mm drop range covers most standard rooms, while the 1.7kg combined weight of the glass and chrome hardware keeps the shade hanging square on the cable. A single E27 bulb fits inside the hourglass, and pairing it with a 2700K warm-white LED filament bulb keeps the graphite tint reading warm.

What bulb does the Sonata take?

The pendant takes one E27 Edison screw bulb, sold separately. We suggest pairing this with a warm-white LED filament bulb between 4-8W and 2700K for ambient lighting, or a decorative squirrel-cage filament bulb where the bulb will be visible through the graphite glass.

Is it dimmable?

Yes, provided you use a dimmable bulb and pair it with a compatible dimmer switch. LED bulbs require LED-compatible dimmers. Older resistive dimmers designed for halogen will cause flicker or failure to dim smoothly.

What's the smallest drop possible?

The minimum drop from ceiling rose to the bottom of the shade is 535mm. This includes the ceiling canopy, cable length and the shade itself. Rooms with ceiling heights below 2.4m may find the pendant sits too low for comfortable clearance.

Does the graphite glass reduce light output?

Yes. The tinted glass diffuses and softens the light from the central bulb, reducing both brightness and glare compared to a clear glass shade. This is intentional. The Sonata is designed for ambient or decorative lighting rather than high-output task lighting.
